Earlier this year while on holiday in Cape Town, we happened to nicely time our visit to coincide with the popular full moon hike up Lion’s Head. Generally, the hike up the mountain takes between 1 and 2 hours, including a fair amount of scrambling and a few metal ladders, and has an elevation of 669 meters. From the top of Lion’s Head, you get to experience the best of both worlds with the sun setting over the ocean on one side and the full moon rising over the mountains directly opposite, and during April’s hike there was a difference of only 10 minutes between the sun setting and the moon rising. This photo was taken during our hike back down, once the sun had completely disappeared and the full moon was in full view overlooking the city.
